Mexico’s car production slipped by 25.9 percent from a year earlier to 257.8 thousand units in October of 2021, the lowest level for that month since 2011, amid the ongoing semiconductor crisis, which is forcing virtually all carmakers to eliminate shifts or temporarily shut down assembly lines.
Among major automakers, production fell at Nissan (-17.8 percent to 53.9 thousand), Stellantis (-9.7 percent to 45.2 thousand), Volkswagen (-37.6 percent to 25.9 thousand) and General Motors (-68.6 percent to 25 thousand). Conversely, output increased notably for Ford Motor (1285 percent to 21.9 thousand).
